NAVSEA / PEO-IWS: M&S Optimization for AEGIS Modernization
Request a Meeting
Challenge
To counter rapidly evolving anti-ship cruise missile threats, the AEGIS Combat System (ACS) requires frequent software updates. Identifying the optimal software-only changes from a nearly unbounded set of configurable parameters is a significant challenge for analysts.
Our Solution
We integrated our OptDef software directly with the Navy’s high-fidelity AEGIS CSTB, including the Testable Component Environment (TCE) and SM-2 federates. This integration allows for the automated exploration and optimization of ACS software parameters.
Impact
In a demonstration for PEO-IWS, OptDef automatically optimized seven different SPY-1 radar doctrine inputs to maximize the Probability of Raid Annihilation. It found the optimal settings in just 75 simulation runs, a fraction of the 432 total possibilities, demonstrating a dramatic increase in analytical efficiency.
